News of the 'Gate 28/7/00 Scruton Dip Their Toe In The Web Sea Scruton CC have made their first, faltering onto the Internet! Unlike the Gate, who have gone the whole hog with this fantastic web site, Scruton have bizarrely taken a page on a US-based sports web site to tell the world about their clubs history. Trouble is, unless you know where to look, you've absolutely no chance of finding it which sort of defeats the object really. As we are visited by people from all over the world, CGCC Web have kindly added a link to help you view Scruton's efforts. See the Links page for more details. 20/6/00 Gate in Overseas Transfer Talks Officials from the Gate are locked in negotiations to bring a talented young Australian to the Club. The Gate were approached by an agent acting on behalf of the player alerting us to his availability for the 2001 season. Joel Urban, from Adelaide, is 23 yrs old and plays 'A' grade district cricket in South Australia and is looking at playing cricket in the UK. Joel is a batsman and keeper and is looking to play in the Yorkshire / Lancashire region (possibly Durham also) but as a batsman only. Amongst his cricketing achievements are:
Should preliminary talks with Gate break down for some reason any interested clubs should contact purban@senet.com.au. 16/6/00 Tait Injury Fears Chop Gate were rocked by the shock news that Mick Tait has injured his ankle by falling off a ladder. A bystander said "I saw the bloke up his ladder then he just fell off!" Langbaurgh Legend, Tait commented "Just wait 'til I f**kin' get hold of f**kin' Chris Lane! It won't just be a f**kin' mole that's dead this time". Tait seemingly believes his injury is due to a revenge attack by the middle-order batsman after some 'high-jinks' last year. With the Gates big match coming up on Sunday the race is on to get the vital all-rounder fit. 10/6/00 Gate in Regional Final Chop Gate qualified for the Regional Final of the National Village Championship by beating Bates' Cottages from up Whitley Bay way like! We have now qualified for the final regional round for the first time against Wolviston who put us out last year. With revenge on the agenda we are looking to defeat the side that wins this group every year. It is probably safe to comment that Wolviston isn't a proper village anyway and is merely a suburb of Billingham, the ground isn't any where near the 'village' either as they probably won't see this! |
