League Match Reports Some (Early) Reports from the 1999 Season before I lost interest.
24/4 East Harlsey (h) - RAINED OFF As is usual these days, a damp and frustrating start. Called off on Friday after a very wet week. 1/5 Scruton (a) - LOST: 5 wickets A makeshift batting order was exposed by steady bowling as first game rustiness showed. Batting first, the ‘Gate struggled to 34 for 5 before Mark Lane (53n.o.) and Berkeley Henegan put together a useful partnership. This good work was carried on by Max Cook and John Melling (on debut) as the ‘Gate achieved a respectable 126-8 from 40 overs. Rustiness was not confined to the batting as the bowlers struggled to find line and length as Scruton put on a useful early partnership with Dave Plews batting well. Wickets did not come easily and by the time Plews was dismissed, stumped off Henegan for 49, the damage was done. Neil Stockton claimed a couple of late wickets to finish with 3-54. 3/5 Kildale (h) - WON: 30 runs After losing Mark Lane early in the innings the ‘Gate rallied to post an impressive 165. The Ginger Grinder produced a trademark innings with 49 in 37 overs while the Ginger Magician and Neil Stockton ran amok at the other end with 43 and 42 respectively. A flurry of late wickets gave Terry Fountain an impressive 6 wicket haul. The ‘Gate gained the upper hand early with a wicket off the first ball as Kildale slid to 10-3 before a good partnership between the two Daves (Corcoran and Doughty) gave them hope before overs and wickets ran out. Neil Stockton finished with 6-27.
